McPHERSON, Kan. — At 11:32 a.m., the McPherson Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1400 block of Briarwood Lane.
Fire Chief Chad Mayberry released a statement about the fire, sharing that upon arrival, firefighters faced heavy flames originating from a two-car garage connected to a residence. The fire had also spread to the exterior wall of a neighboring house.
Firefighters acted quickly, extinguishing the blaze in the garage and the flames on the adjacent property. They entered the main residence to search for any occupants and to tackle the fire inside. Fortunately, it was confirmed that both homes were unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Damage to the primary residence is extensive, and according to Chief Mayberry, will be considered a “total loss”. There were 22 firefighters on-site. The McPherson Fire Department responded with 15 personnel and seven fire vehicles, while the Galva Fire Department contributed two personnel and two fire vehicles, and the Inman Fire Department added five personnel and three fire vehicles. Both Galva and Inman departments assisted in extinguishing the fire.
Additional support came from McPherson EMS, the McPherson Police Department, and McPherson County Emergency Management. Firefighters concluded their operations shortly after 3 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by McPherson Fire Department Fire Investigators, although no foul play is suspected at this time. Further details have not been released.
