A storm that rapidly developed late Wednesday afternoon northwest of Salina brought up to baseball sized hail in a swatch across Saline, McPherson and Harvey counties into the Wichita area.
The largest hail reports came in a band from northwest of Smolan through McPherson and southwest of Moundridge into the Halstead area. Numerous reports to the National Weather Service indicated hail from half dollar to golf ball size, though in places the hail was primarily pea to dime sized.
There were reports of broken windshields from the storm that also produced estimated winds of 70 miles an hour. Elyria Christian School was hard hit by the storm. Many volunteers came forward last night to begin cleanup, and as that continues, there will be no school at ECS today.
The junior high soccer match has been postponed, but away games scheduled for today including junior high and high school volleyball, cross country and cheer will take place as scheduled.
Also, there’s been a change in location for Saturday night’s southern gospel concert at Elyria Christian School. It’s been moved to Countryside Covenant Church.
