HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On April 18, a significant break occurred in the 24-inch waterline under Severance Street, between 17th and 23rd Avenues. Immediate repair efforts included the installation of a clamp on the damaged section. Unfortunately, the initial clamp was not able to completely seal the leak. As crews were excavating for the installation of the larger repair, significant pipeline damage was discovered requiring the replacement of 250 feet of 24-inch waterline.
As a result of the ongoing repair work, Severance Street will remain closed. The City is currently in the process of selecting a contractor for the repair and work is anticipated to start within the next two weeks.
The City will provide an update as soon as the contractor establishes a repair timeline. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this period.
