HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Over the last year Greater Hutch Economic Development and the City of Hutchinson have worked closely with SDI/ MAPS as they plan for their facility and workforce expansion in Hutchinson. SDI/ MAPS, established in 1976 and operating in Hutchinson since 1991, is one of the primary suppliers and installers of POS systems for over 2,700 McDonalds stores nationwide. SDI/ MAPS has seen unprecedented growth in the last year alone to accommodate the growing technological advancement demands from McDonalds systems.

Their current 120-person workforce generates $6 million in annual salaries and $416,181 in net benefit fiscal impact to the City of Hutchinson alone, almost all of which is accrued from outside of Kansas. For the first time in their 50 years of local ownership and operation, the exponential growth they are experiencing has led them to seek financial support from outside of their own operations and capital in the form of issuance of Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB’s) through the City of Hutchinson. Jerry Boone, managing partner of MAPS commented that the growth they’ve experienced in the last year alone combined with the projected growth in the next few years makes them “the longest overnight success story (he’s) ever seen”.

On Tuesday February 3rd, Hutchinson City Council passed the issue of Industrial Revenue Bonds to SDI/MAPS. The IRB’s will provide the benefit of 10 years of property tax abatement at 100% and sales tax exemption certification for their $2,000,000 project and will support:

  • Creation of 50 new jobs at an average wage of $41,665 in the technology sector starting in 2026
  • Renovation of existing 101,754 square feet at their headquarter facility on Adams St. to grow workforce to 118 professional office positions in addition to field installer positions
  • $702,842 in net benefits less incentives to the City of Hutchinson alone
  • 28.1% rate of return on investment to the City of Hutchinson starting in year 11

City Manager Enrico Villegas stated “we are excited to support locally grown and operated companies like SDI/ MAPS to see them through this exponential period of growth that helps put Hutchinson on not just the regional or national but the world map for technology service solution providers”

President and CEO of the Hutchinson/ Reno County Chamber of Commerce added “Companies like SDI/MAPS are key drivers of primary job growth and expansion in our strategically identified target industry clusters like technology that will continue to Elevate Hutchinson and Reno County through high wage jobs and quality investment”.

Local partnership will continue to support this project as the company launches the interior renovation phase of approximately 23,000 square feet including modernization of office areas, operations space, and supporting infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, life‐safety, accessibility, IT, and other building systems required to support SDI’s growing technology and service operations in 2026. “We could grow in any one of the 50 states we do business in, but we find the culture here in Hutchinson to be one of the best in our industry” said Boone in his remarks to City Council February 3rd.
