SALINA, Kan. – Salina Area Technical College is one step closer to adding a new industrial maintenance and automation program to its roster. Last week, Salina Tech President Greg Nichols announced a $400 thousand donation from the Sutherland Foundation towards the construction of a new building to house the program.
Earlier this year, the school secured a $1.8 million grant match from the Kansas Department of Commerce towards the new facility. Donations to the match so far have totaled more than $600 thousand.
Plans have been drafted for a 15,000-square-foot building with classrooms, shop spaces, and an 80-seat amphitheater.
The Industrial Maintenance and Automation program will train employees on configuring and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, with an expected launch in the fall of 2024.
