SALINA, Kan. — The Salina City Commission Monday accepted several project bids, one of which was the last section of the median reconstruction project on Broadway between Republic and Cloud awarded to Prairie Landworks of McPherson. Their bid with a $50,000 contingency added by the city was the low of two received and just below the engineer’s estimate.
It approved an up to $200,000 bid from Wildcat Painting of Wichita for pairing of 465 fire hydrants in the area west of Ohio and North of Crawford and several local parks Wildcat had the low bid of four submitted, and the only one that submitted a required bid bond.
A contract for painting and maintenance of the Sunset water tower on West Jewell was awarded to Maguire Iron of Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a cost not to exceed $278,250. Seven bids were received on this project, this bid $100,000 under engineers estimates.
Commissioners have approved a $2.979 million bid including contingency to Mies Construction of Wichita for this year’s water line replacement project. Since 2010, the city has completed just over 42 miles of main replacement, not counting what was just approved involving two segments of line, with pipe sizes ranging from six to 12 inches.
To date most of the lines replaced have been in the area south of Claflin from Broadway east to Ohio, with many other scattered projects throughout the city.
