RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Rise Up Reno’s annual Youth Empowerment Summit scheduled for Monday has been canceled for safety reasons.

Executive Director Carla Smith said Sunday afternoon the decision to cancel was made based on below freezing temperatures and travel concerns for attendees and youth leadership students traveling from out of town.

Smith indicated in a news release they are hoping to be able to reschedule this event down the road. Information on this will be announced as a date is determined that will work best for all of the school districts involved.

The Youth Empowerment Summit is a leadership event for 5th through 8th grade students in Reno County during which students can become better equipped for transitions into middle and high school through a series of activities focused on leadership, resilience and how to access leadership opportunities while beginning to build relationships with caring adults and older students.
