LYONS, Kan. — Rice County Commissioners have appointed Dr. Jennifer Fairchild Froese, a licensed clinical psychologist and professor at Sterling College, to serve as the county’s representative on the Center for Counseling and Consultation Board of Directors.

Dr. Froese brings more than 20 years of experience in psychology, education, and community mental health. She currently provides therapy through Horizons Mental Health Center in Hutchinson and teaches psychology at Sterling College, where she also mentors students and leads research projects.

“I am honored to serve and to help strengthen mental health resources for Rice County residents,” Froese said. “Mental wellness affects every part of life—home, school, and work. I hope to help our community continue building strong support systems for those who need them.”

The Center for Counseling and Consultation, based in Great Bend, provides professional mental health services for residents in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, and Stafford counties. The center offers counseling, crisis intervention, addiction recovery, and family support services to people of all ages, regardless of income.

As the Rice County representative, Dr. Froese will help guide decisions about mental health programs, policies, and partnerships across the region. Her expertise will help ensure that Rice County continues to have a strong voice in expanding access to care and advocating for residents’ well-being.

“Dr. Froese’s professional experience and compassion for others make her an outstanding advocate for Rice County,” said John “Clay” Thomas, Rice County Commission Chair. “Her leadership will help us continue to make mental health a community priority.”
