HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A veteran law enforcement officer who spent much of his career with the Hutchinson Police Department has filed for what will be an open seat on the Hutchinson City Council.
Darrin Truan announced Monday he will seek the at-large position on the council in this year’s election. 24 of Truan’s 33 years in law enforcement where he retired at the rank of Sergeant. Truan owns and manages local rental properties along with being a long-time tradesman, knowledgeable in rentals, repairs, building cost and the need for more affordable housing.
Truan said in a news release announcing his candidacy his more than two decades of Police Work have put him in close touch with city problems and issues, inspiring his desire to help move forward with “Common Sense Solutions and keeping a close eye on spending,” Truan said, “Conservative, Reasonable taxes, coupled with a progressive response to citizen concerns is my government goal.”
Truan’s wife Tiffany works at a local bank, and they have two children who also live in Hutchinson. Truan says he plans to attend as many council meetings as possible between now and the election to become better informed on issues. The At Large Council seat Truan seeks is currently held by Stacy Goss, who is also Hutchinson’s current Mayor. Goss has filed for the Northwest District position currently held by Jon Richardson, who has announced he will not seek a second four-year term. Also, up for election this year is the Southwest District, where incumbent Greg Fast has filed for re-election to a second term.
