HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The first step towards the deployment of additional fire utility terrain vehicles in Reno County was approved Tuesday by County when a $32 thousand expenditure for Reno/Harvey County Joint Fire District 2 in Buhler was approved.

At the present time, the only UTV units in Reno County are those of the Hutchinson Fire Department. County Fire Administrator Travis Vogt has identified a need for three or four of these units to be placed at strategic locations around the county.

The UTVs are equipped with a 75-gallon water tank and accessories and are primarily used for mop-up and overhaul work in places not accessible by brush trucks.

The purchase includes a trailer that can be pulled by a truck which Joint District 2 already has.
