RENO COUNTY, Kan. — An inmate at the Reno County Correctional Facility died Sunday.
Sheriff Darrian Campbell said in a statement that deputies at the facility were notified just after 6 PM an inmate was in distress in his cell. Deputies performed life saving measures until Reno County EMS and Hutchinson Fire personnel arrived to take over efforts that ultimately were unsuccessful.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist in the investigation of the inmate’s death, which the Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with.
The identity of the inmate has not been released pending notification of family.
Reno County Sheriff’s Office shared an update on April 16:
The family has been notified. The name of the deceased is Kenneth Wayne Smith, of Hutchinson.
