Power Outages Following Severe Weather Overnight

SHARE NOW

Early Tuesday morning, a severe storm moved through the Wichita region with winds in excess of 100 mph, resulting in more than 45,000 customers without power. Communities with the most damage include Wichita, Hutchinson, Newton and Derby, KS.

Evergy teams and contract crews immediately responded and about 60% of those customers have now been restored.

Damage assessment crews are encountering trees, wire and poles down in the hardest-hit areas, and we are working as efficiently and safely as possible to retore power to affected customers.

In addition, more than 150 linemen and vegetation management workers from Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma are traveling to the Wichita area to assist with the restoration effort.

At Evergy, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore power.

More storms in the forecast

With additional storms in the forecast for this afternoon and tonight, take a moment to establish a shelter plan with your family. Make a plan to check on friends and neighbors, especially if they live alone.

If you do experience an outage, please report it. Keep safe and stay informed as we evaluate damage and restore power.

Keep away from downed power lines: stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines in your area and use caution in nearby areas.
