HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Plum Creek Elementary School (PCE) was placed under lockdown for a time Wednesday afternoon.
Buhler USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman said Reno County Dispatch advised school officials at 2:55 p.m. to place the building into lockdown as a precautionary measure as law enforcement was pursuing a subject in the area.
According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of North Plum Street between 43rd and 56th Avenues for the report of a male suspect in possession of an AR-15-style rifle. The situation was resolved safely about 15 minutes after the lockdown at PCE was initiated, at which time the school was released and students were allowed to be dismissed.
Couchman said that because of protective measures of law enforcement, at no time were any students or staff in danger.
