LARNED, Kan. — A former Great Bend man pled no contest Monday in Pawnee County District Court to charges stemming from a September 2023 burglary south of Larned in which several items including a .45 caliber handgun was taken.
As part of a plea agreement with County Attorney Douglass McNett, Jeffrey Lynn Renfro pled to residential burglary, interference with law enforcement, and criminal possession of a firearm. The interference charge involved his taking and tearing up a notebook a detective was taking notes on while being interviewed, and the firearms charge stemmed from a prior criminal threat conviction in McPherson County.
In exchange for the plea, charges of felony theft, criminal deprivation of a motor vehicle and intimidation of a witness were dismissed. District Judge Bruce Gatterman ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for June 26th.
Renfro, who remains in custody, is expected to face a presumptive 53-month prison sentence less any jail credit.
