HUTCHINSON, Kan. (September 5, 2025) – The 112th Kansas State Fair officially opened its gates this morning with an opening ceremony at the People’s Bank and Trust Arena. Despite the rainy weather, fairgoers donned rain jackets and ponchos, with spirits high among the sounds, sights, and smells of the fair.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Richard Shank, followed by the presentation of colors by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Fair Board members Paula Landoll Smith and Dylan Evans led the crowd in the National Anthem. Dignitaries including State Fair Board President John Leslie, Hutchinson Mayor Stacy Goss, and General Manager of the Fair Bryan Schulz all extended their thanks to attendees, staff, and volunteers for making the fair possible. Bryce Brewer, President and CEO of People’s Bank and Trust, highlighted the welcoming nature of Kansans and expressed his excitement for the days ahead, celebrating shared heritage and a bright future.
A significant new addition to the fairgrounds was also unveiled today: a brand-new canopy over the People’s Bank and Trust Arena. This much-anticipated improvement kept all attendees dry during the ceremony. Schulz thanked People’s Bank and Trust for their generous contribution, noting that the canopy will allow the Arena to be utilized more frequently throughout the year. Travis Lay of TL Steel, who designed and created the canopy, also extended his thanks to the Fair for entrusting him and his crew with the project. John Leslie, Travis Lay, and Bryce Brewer had the honor of cutting the ribbon on the project.
Today is also “Young At Heart Day” at the Kansas State Fair, sponsored by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
