One Man in Custody Following Five Hour Standoff in Marquette Tuesday

MARQUETTE, Kan.  — One person is in custody after a five-hour standoff late Tuesday afternoon and evening in Marquette.

The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office said this morning dispatch received several reports around 4:40 PM Tuesday of a male brandishing a firearm at multiple individuals in Marquette. Responding deputies found the man outside his home with the firearm. Deputies tried to have him surrender but he pointed the firearm at them and retreated into the residence.

Outside assistance was brought in from the McPherson Joint Special Response Team, Lindsborg Police, Reno County Sheriff’s office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Marquette EMS, and the perimeter of the home was secured as negotiations took place.

The standoff ended about five hours later then the man was taken into custody without incident, and after first being taken to McPherson Hospital for Evaluation he was booked into the McPherson County Jail.

He faces multiple charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threat, Interference with law enforcement and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
