McPHERSON, Kan. — A McPherson man was killed in a one vehicle accident around noon today in the 800 block of East First.
Police Chief Mikel Golden identified the victim as 62-year-old James Willis. A witness told officers a van was eastbound on First when it crossed oncoming westbound traffic, entered the grass, and struck a tree at the southeast entrance to McPherson High School where it came to rest.
McPherson Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving measures and extinguished the vehicle to avoid any chance of fire, but Willis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial cause of the accident remains under investigation, and an autopsy is being done. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact McPherson Police at 620-245-1200.
