BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — One of three people involved in a Sunday evening UTV accident west of Hoisington has died.

The Barton County Sheriff’s office said the operator of the UTV, 62-year-old Kevin Seyfert of Hoisington, died Monday afternoon at a Wichita Hospital, where he’d been flown after initial treatment at Clara Barton Hospital.

An investigation indicated the UTV was under acceleration and going at a high rate of speed when Seyfert attempted to make a sharp turn in an open field just west of the baseball fields in the county when the vehicle went into a skid and overturned.

The other two persons in the UTV were also injured. Kenton Renz, 37, of Hoisington was ejected from the UTV and sustained serious injuries, while 71-year-old Lavern Boxberger of Hoisington, the only person properly restrained, was also seriously injured. Both are currently being treated at Wichita hospitals they were also flown to.

The Accident remains under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out the possibility alcohol was a contributing factor.
