IOLA, Kan. — The SEK Multi-County Health Department is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on a new initiative designed to help Iola families better understand lead exposure and take steps to protect their health.
Through the partnership, health department staff will provide education about lead and smelter waste, information about blood lead screening, assistance with access to soil sampling for qualifying properties, and support for families with questions or concerns about potential lead exposure.
The project is intended to help residents understand potential risks, recognize when testing may be appropriate, and connect families with information and resources that can help protect their health.
“Know the risks. Take simple steps. Protect your family,” is the message behind the initiative.
