The body of a 12-year-old Erie boy who was struck by a train as he and another person were walking on a bridge over the Neosho River Wednesday has been found.

Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor said he was notified during the noon hour Sunday by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks of a possible sighting of the body of Kollin Showalter at the KG&E Dam a couple of miles south of US 400 southeast of Parsons.

Labette County First Responders responded to the scene and were able to successfully recover the body, which has been turned over to the Neosho County Coroner.

Showalter’s body was found one day after search crews had to suspend the search due to rising waters in the river from releases coming out of John Redmond Reservoir. The body of the other victim, 16-year-old Arthur Pollries of Walnut, was recovered shortly after they were struck and went into the river.

In a statement Sunday evening Sheriff Taylor expressed his gratitude to every first responder and the community who contributed to the recovery effort.
