Canton, Kan. — Maxwell Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of Maxwell are hosting their annual Mountain Man Fall Rendezvous this weekend (Sept. 22 – 24) at 2565, Pueblo Rd, Canton, Kan.
The 3-day event begins Friday and features 1800’s re-enactment with mountain men, trappers, traders and flint knapper demonstrations, along with black powder shoots, knife and hawk throws, and archery. The event demonstrates life as it was on the Kansas prairies.
On Saturday, there will be Bluegrass music at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with Mix Gravel Band and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. the Haymakers Band will play. Concessions will be provided on site by Tammy’s Country Catering. There will be arts and craft booths at the event as well.
There is a benefit auction of Elk sheds and other donated items on Saturday at 3 p.m. Proceeds will go for The Friends of Maxwell a non-profit organization that provides the tours and events for the refuge.
Gates open each day at 9:30, and admission is free, although there is a charge for the bison tour. Individual prices are $15 -Adults and $7.50 children. Tours will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
