More Information Released on Two Teens Struck by Train South of Erie Wednesday

ERIE, Kan. — More information has been released regarding the two juveniles struck by a train during the noon hour Wednesday south of Erie. The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the victims as 16-year-old Arthur Pollries of Walnut and 12-year-old Kollin Showalter of Erie.

Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor said the two had been running southbound on the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge over the Neosho River just north of 115th Road, about a mile and a half south of Erie when according to camera footage they were hit by the train.

One of the teens was found shortly thereafter as the Erie and St. Paul Fire Departments along with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Kansas Highway Patrol plus a local drone owner assisted in a search for the other. Swift water rescue teams from Chanute and Anderson County were brought in today to assist in the search.

USD 101 and the Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center are making grief counselors available Monday from 8-4 at Erie High School for students, staff, and community members in need.
