HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Monday afternoon fire damaged a duplex home in midtown Hutchinson and sent one firefighter to the hospital.
Hutchinson Fire Department Division Chief of Operations Jeremy Unruh said the first crews on scene of the two story structure in the unit block of West 16th found smoke coming from the front entryway and the back of the structure.
An aggressive interior attack was made, and firefighters were able to limit fire spread to one bedroom with smoke damage throughout the remainder of the home.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of weather-related heat exposure. Three occupants of the home escaped without injury.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
