The Kansas Department of Agriculture is asking poultry owners in parts of McPherson and Rice counties to contact them immediately in connection to a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza reported last week.

The area of concern in McPherson County is bounded on the east by I-135, the north by Pawnee Road, the South by Comanche Road and the west by Plum Avenue or 31st Road, the McPherson/Rice county line. This includes McPherson, Windom, Conway and Groveland, but does not include Lindsborg or Inman.

In Rice County, where it has been confirmed the HPAI outbreak was at the Cal-Maine Foods facility near Chase, the area of concern is bounded on the west by the Rice/Barton County line, on the east by K-14, on the north by K-4 and on the south by Avenue T along with the city of Alden. It also includes Lyons, Chase, and Raymond but not Sterling, Geneseo or Little River.

KDA is seeking information on poultry locations to make sure their owners are familiar with HPAI symptoms and steps needed to protect their flock. If you’re a poultry owner in that area, contact KDA at 833-765-2006 or email [email protected].
