McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Fire crews, along with the Galva Fire Department, responded Wednesday afternoon to a fire report at Johns Manville, 1465 17th Ave, McPherson.

The call came in at about 3:52 PM, and McPherson Fire Deputy Chief Seth Graham said on arrival, crews found smoke showing from the building, which had been safely evacuated. Crews then made an interior fire attack and found a fiberglass production unit had overheated.

In addition to excessive fire in the oven, the fire had extended into an exhaust stack. Crews were able to cool the oven and extinguish the fire in the exhaust stack, after which the oven was shut down by facility personnel.

Cause of the fire is being listed as accidental, and no injuries were reported.

Between the two departments four engine companies, two command vehicles, and 14 firefighters responded, with McPherson EMS and the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office assisting at the scene.
