McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Results from the November 4th general election were certified by McPherson County Commissioners following the vote canvass this morning. Including the count of write in votes, which did change the result of one race.
That was in Inman, where Billy Garst received 196 write-in votes to get the second of two council positions available Unofficial results from election night had Nick Reinecker with 87 votes for the second spot. In Lindsborg, Lysa-Palmer-Augusta was elected as a write-in to Ward 3 on the City Council which had no filed candidates.
The vote counts for the three write-in candidates for the USD 418 Board of Education had Virgil DeWild with 522, Jeff Butler with 513, and Curtis Zimmer with 168. DeWild’s vote total was 728 votes less than that received by Perry McCabe, who finished 3rd of the four ballot candidates for three available positions.
The other McPherson County race involving write-ins was Windom City Council, where Debbie Gadberry, Lisa Johnson and John Ratzlaff were the top vote getters for the three available seats.
Deputy Election Officer Colleen Yarosh said there were 101 provisional ballots reviewed, of which 79 were fully counted and two others, where the voter cast ballots in the wrong polling place, were partially counted involving the races they could cast ballots in.
