A change order on the McPherson County Building project for the County Clerk’s Office was approved by the County Commission Monday. This involves $5,765 to cover wiring and installation of security cameras in two storage rooms where election materials and equipment are stored and a card reader for one door. This would be identical to what the Clerk’s Office had in the Courthouse.
County Clerk Hollie Melroy said her office will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, possibly Friday, as they relocate to the County Building. The office could be open at least part of Friday, depending on how the moving process goes.
Commissioners approved a new conditional use permit for an adult care “home plus” east of Inman. The home, which has been in existence since 2006, is in the process of being sold, and a change in state law allows an increase in the capacity permitted from the eight allowed when the original permit was issued. Pending licensure by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability services, the capacity will increase to as many as 16, which will require expansion of an existing wastewater system.
Prairie View is asking McPherson County for a five percent increase in their funding allocation for mental health services for 2027, to $265,000 McPherson County Commissioners Monday, Prairie View President and CEO Marcy Johnson said during 2025 Prairie View served 1,451 patients in McPherson County, a number that’s gone up by 12 percent since 2022.
Johnson added a majority of which are uninsured or underinsured. The number of services provided for McPherson County patients has increased 36 percent over that time. It has 39 employees in McPherson County, with an annual payroll of more than $2.3 million.
Commissioners approved a $10,000 payment to Weber Road Solutions of Salina for additional milling work in the area of a railroad crossing at McPherson Street in Galva. The City of Galva had requested this work, done in conjunction with a mill and overlay project on 21st Avenue north of Galva, and the city will reimburse the county for this expense.
Public Works Director David Bohnenblust told Commissioners overlay work will be starting soon on 18th Avenue southeast of McPherson, and the shoulder project on 5th Avenue is nearing completion. He also reported the Public Works fueling system will be done for about a week starting June 16th, with county vehicles to be fueled at MKC. There was discussion on how this will impact law enforcement, as both the Sheriff’s Office and McPherson Police Department fuel their vehicles at Public Works.
