McPherson Commissioners Approve Moratorium on Health Insurance

MCPHERSON, Kan. – On July 18, The McPherson City Commission approved a moratorium on health insurance premium payments for the month of September.

Under City policy when the amount in the city’s health insurance reserve exceeds a certain level health insurance premium charges can be suspended for employees and the city contribution to the plan. Even with the moratorium the reserve balance will remain healthy.

Commissioners also accepted the resignation of a police officer, hiring of a paid call firefighter and a temporary worker for Turkey Creek Golf Course, submission of the liquor license renewal for the Community Building, and event approval for an end of summer bash being put on by Oxford Chapter 13 August 5th using the Municipal Center lawn and the Fire Department parking lot.

McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday also approved a ten thousand dollar payment to Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center for Child Forensic Interview services. McPherson, Harvey and Marion counties split the cost for a certified interviewer, who so far this year has done 22 interviews for McPherson Police on cases involving crimes against children, with four more expected this week according to Police Chief Mikel Golden. This is a budgeted item for the city.
