McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Fire Department’s water rescue team was deployed last week in the wake of flooding in eastern parts of Kansas, and took part in a rescue operation. Division Chief Seth Graham gave a report on their work to the McPherson City Commission Tuesday.

Along with teams from Great Bend, Salina, Junction City and southwest Kansas they were mobilized by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office, working with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, June 3rd. The teams would eventually be deployed to Chase County after initially staging in Emporia.

The team was sent to Chase County to perform a water rescue where two people and their dogs were unable to leave their home due to rising flood waters. It was able to remove them to higher ground.

The team demobilized shortly after that rescue. McPherson and Great Bend were the only departments able to be deployed from Task Force 5 due to the extensive flooding in the Wichita and El Dorado areas.
