McPherson City Commissioners Approve Two Tree Removals on North Elm, Equipment Upgrades and Upcoming Summer Events

McPHERSON, Kan.  — Removal of two trees and one stump in the way of the reconstruction of the 1100 block of North Elm was approved by McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday, Treder Tree will be removing them at a cost not to exceed $3,500.

The Commission approved replacement of an air compressor used by the street department through United Rentals. This was a budgeted item for 2025, with the cost of $27,599 slightly above what had been budgeted.

It also approved spending up to $24,500, including shipping, to rebuild the two pumps feeding a centrifuge at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is a regular maintenance item due to the very harsh environment the pumps operate in.

It was also reported electrical work is nearly done on the Lift Station 3 project and changeover is expected this week, and removals have also begun on the Myers Street reconstruction.

Renewal of the medical consultant contract with Dr. David Dupy, who provides approval of protocols and medical direction for licensed medical technicians in the Fire Department, was approved This has an annual cost of $6,000. The Commission also accepted the resignation of a paid call firefighter who is relocating to the Kansas City area.

The Commission Tuesday approved the completion of an access control project at the Municipal Center. This work, to be done through reach solutions, will expand the existing system to include the remaining two public access doors, and manual enter and exit buttons for reception desks at a cost of $6,426.19.

It approved a payment to Travelers of just over $45,000 for the city’s deductible to close out a claim from 2022, and renewed the package beer license for Casey’s.

Multiple events were approved, including the 4th of July extravaganza at Wall Park, which will include music from King Midas and the Muflers and fireworks. Also approved were the various items related to the United Way of McPherson County Triathlon July 26th, the Intrepid Brass Band Concert July 3rd at the Lakeside Park Bandshell, and use of Linnea Park September 20th for a local company’s annual picnic.
