McPHERSON, Kan. — Amendment of the Sales Tax Revenue Fund in the city of McPherson’s 2025 budget was approved by City Commissioners following a public hearing Tuesday.
Finance Director Richard Miller said that fund had a larger than expected carryover to start the year, and in order to make transfers into various funds including streets, capital improvement, public lands and facilities and others it was necessary to approve an amended budget to comply with Kansas budget laws.
In another financial matter, Commissioners approved an increase in the maximum spending authorization without specific Commission approval to $5,000, effective January 1st.
A special use permit was approved to allow an automotive parts, accessories and service retail store on part of a lot located to the south of Candlewood Inn and Suites at 2219 East Kansas. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the permit in September, and the site plan was approved last month. This will not impact the potential a restaurant will be added on an adjoining lot.
The Commissioners approved the 2026 fire service agreements with King City and McPherson townships and Rural Fire District 10, which is the south half of New Gottland Township.
The contracts are based on one half percent of the final assessed valuation of each district, and will reflect a 2.48 percent increase for Fire District 10, 2.09 percent for McPherson Township, and .92 percent for King City Township. Combined, the contracts will bring in $572,794,31 for the Fire Department in 2026
An ordinance to clarify street names in the Barnstormers West subdivision was approved. This action in part corrects names for four streets in the development and repeals parts of four earlier ordinances. The changes will take effect upon filing of the ordinance with the McPherson County Register of Deeds.
Commissioners approved a fair housing policy connected with a 2022 housing rehabilitation grant, approved write-off of just over $5,900 in sewer, trash and stormwater charges as requested by the Board of Public Utilities Though written off BPU will continue collection efforts.
Commissioners dealt with multiple personnel items, including acceptance of the resignation of Turkey Creek Golf Course assistant superintendent Ray Reno, effective December 21st and started the hiring process to fill that position.
The Commission approved conditional job offers for three interns for the Fire Department during the second semester and bringing back a finance intern from this summer to assist with year- end work. Commissioners also approved hiring a paid call firefighter and accepted the resignation of a crossing guard.
The Commission also re-approved the enhanced cereal malt beverage license for the Village Geek to include the special conditions on their original license which were left off when the license was originally approved last week.
Angela Brunk was also appointed to the Library Board.
