MCPHERSON, Kan. – Repair work to plumbing in the restrooms at Memorial Park was approved by the McPherson City Commission Tuesday. Staff reported throughout the restroom’s mechanical room there were multiple deficiencies found in the old copper pipe system. Of the three vendors contacted, only Jim’s Plumbing provided a quote for the repair of leaks and restoration of the mechanical room, with a cost not to exceed $2,900.
Fire Department
In Fire Department-related matters, the Commission accepted the resignation of a paid call firefighter, approved the hiring of a new firefighter/EMT, and authorized another payment for restoration work on the 1928 American LaFrance Fire Truck that is being funded entirely through private donations.
Street Department
Commissioners authorized a transfer of $100 thousand in sales tax receipts to the Street Department to assist with a needed replacement of their auxiliary building. While the city had budgeted sales tax receipts for 2022 at $1.6 million, the actual amount received came in at just over $2.1 million.
Veranda West Subdivision
The final plat for the Veranda West Subdivision, located on the north side of Northview Road between Sonora and Veranda Circle, was accepted. The Planning Commission earlier this month recommended approval of the final plat after a correction was made. The owner of the property, Glenn Hoover, plans to establish a series of lots for higher-end housing on the property, which earlier was annexed with his consent. A petition will now be filed to set the zoning class for the property, which will be recommended for single-family residential.
McPherson Airport
Approval was given for the allocation of $25 thousand in ARPA funds for updating hangars at McPherson Airport. The McPherson County Commission had earlier allocated $50 thousand dollars towards the project.
