McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson City Commissioners approved bids Tuesday for items connected with the new Police Substation at Kansas and Oak. A bid was accepted from AutoKing for signage at a cost of just over $8,000, the second lowest of five bids received, and another bid was accepted from Procon for phase 1 of a driveway project, their bid of $43,650, the lowest of four bids received. Commissioners approved purchase from Motorola Solutions for four radios to be installed on two brush trucks currently on order. Each unit will have two radios, one for dispatch and one for an incident event channel. They also accepted the resignation of a paid call firefighter.
Three change orders on current projects were approved. Two of these are with Dondlinger and Sons for geogrid reinforcement on the paving project on Eshelman Street north of Kansas Avenue and to remove and replace an approach at the Kansas Avenue tie-in. Another change order, was for the Terra Nova Duplex Sanitary Sewer project with Prairie Landworks involved adjustments to final quantities for the sewer main and an additional depth manhole, which has a new contract increase of just over $168 dollars and change.
The Commission also approved purchase of ballasts used in the ultraviolet disinfection system at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and replacement of curbing for a property on Briarwood where the homeowner is replacing their driveway to address a drainage issue.
The Commission approved the hiring of Hayes Schmid as Temporary Assistant Superintendent at Turkey Creek Golf Course. Schmidt had worked as a seasonal employee at Turkey Creek during his high school and first two years of college, and has extensive experience in golf course maintenance and clubhouse operations.
Commissioners approved transfer of an employee from a water park to the Park Department, and additional payment for more damage found on a Park vehicle that had been hit by a mower. Of note here is the mower involved, one made in Hesston, sustained no damage in that incident.
The Commission approved a waiver of fees for the next Habitat for Humanity House, to be built at 920 North Maple. Habitat for Humanity McPherson County’s Fred Bohnenblust said this is the 43rd house they have constructed since 1992. The fee waiver has been granted for all prior projects.
Commissioners approved a three year cash rent agreement with Matthew Friesen for the farm ground located north of McPherson Cemetery. This agreement may be adjusted based on potential expansion needs.
The Commission approved a $182,000 proposal with Lumineo Signs for a pair of LED signs along I-135, subject to completion of zoning and land requirements and City Attorney approval. This involving an island annexation of sites into the city, which is a KDOT requirement. It also approved renewal of the contract with Civic Plus for the city’s web site.
