MCCF Announces State Tax Credits Available when Supporting Cradle to Crayons

By Brenna Eller

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — The Kansas Department of Commerce has recently awarded multiple non-profit organizations throughout the state Community Service Program (CSP) Tax Credits. McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) shared that Cradle to Crayons of Moundridge has received $166,600 in funding toward a building project for a new childcare facility.

The CSP Tax Credit program is very competitive program to apply for in Kansas. Applicants have to address one of the following criteria in order to qualify:

  • Community service/childcare
  • Non-governmental crime prevention
  • Youth apprenticeship and technical training
  • Healthcare services

In 2024, $4.1 million in state tax credits were announced for CSP. How it works is that state tax credits reduce the total amount of taxes owed to the state, which reduces the cost for taxpayers who contribute to non-profits or public health care entities such as Cradle to Crayons.

In MCCF’s announcement, Casie Wiens, Cradle to Crayons Director shared, “We are thrilled for the opportunity to move our dream of a new center closer to reality.”

The new Cradle to Crayons Building will be able to expand the capacity of Cradle to Crayons, aiming to address the current demand of childcare in Moundridge. The tax credit awarded will be used towards the portion of the building that addresses safety.

Kansas Businesses/individuals subject to income taxes can receive a tax credit through this program. Donors who give at least $250 to the project of their choice may qualify for a 70% or 50% tax credit.

If you or your business would like to donate to the Cradle to Crayons building project, contact MCCF at (620) 245-9070.
