ELLSWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — A Lyons High School senior who was to graduate this weekend was killed Thursday evening in a car-semi crash in Ellsworth County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said Nathaniel (Nate) Dold of Sterling was eastbound on K-156 about 3 ½ miles northeast of Ellsworth when he crossed the center line and struck the semi which was going west.
Dold died at the scene while the semi driver, Noel Schilling of Morrill, Kan., was taken to Ellsworth County Hospital with reported minor injuries.
Lyons USD 405 Superintendent Bill Day said counselors were made available at the high school for students and staff today. Information regarding funeral arrangements and other announcements will be made as available.
Lyons High’s 2025 commencement will be Sunday.
