LYONS, Kan. — Remington Dalke has been appointed Lyons City Attorney. The appointment of Dalke recommended by Mayor Alicia Hommon was approved by the Lyons City Council Monday in one of the shortest meetings it has had in some time, with all business completed in 20 minutes.
Dalke, who also serves as Rice County Attorney, has lived in Lyons for nearly 20 years and has served in the past as city prosecutor and later as Municipal Judge prior to be elected County Attorney. He has extensive experience in municipal and criminal law along with a focus on public service that included studies in philosophy and religion prior to attending law school.
Dalke will succeed Patrick Hoffman, who Monday became the full-time City Attorney in Salina. Hoffman had also served as county counselor for both Barton and Reno counties.
Following two public hearings, the Council adopted resolutions ordering the repair or removal of structures at 308 North State and 330 East 1st. Both properties, which have been vacant since 2019, are unsecured and in a dilapidated conditions.
The resolutions give the owners of the two properties 60 days to being repair or demolition, and complete it within 60 days of commencement. If not completed in that time, the city will be able to proceed with removal of the structures in question.
Council members also approved the purchase of 600 feet of new fire hose from Weis Fire for $2,925, which is funded through a grant.
At a special meeting Jan. 27, the council was to have heard an update on the Wastewater Treatment Plant project, however Thaniel Monaco was unable to attend due to a medical issue. He has advised city officials the plans for the project will be submitted in time to meet a KDHE consent order. An update on the project is scheduled for the Council’s next meeting Feb. 17.
