LEROY, Kan. — There’s a new mural in LeRoy. Artist Jim Stuckey completed the mural Monday in downtown LeRoy, on the north side of the historic Brownfield’s Grocery building, which Jeff Freeman is restoring.
The city of LeRoy received a $3,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce Office of Rural Prosperity. Director Trisha Purdon said the purpose of these grants is to allow rural communities to show their history and culture and bring them together to share it.
The LeRoy mural grant was one of 12 announced earlier this year by Governor Laura Kelly. Other grants in this region went to the Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce and Melvern Community P.R.I.D.E.
The grant application for LeRoy was written by Iola Radio’s Sarah Stewart who is also a business owner in LeRoy and also assisted in the design.
