Lindsborg Property Owners to Receive Tax Refunds After Mill Levy Error

LINDSBORG, Kan. — Property owners in Lindsborg will be seeing an adjustment in the 2025 tax bills, due to an error in the mill levy calculation for the city of Lindsborg.

County Clerk Hollie Melroy told McPherson County Commissioners Monday at the time of budget adoption, the Lindsborg City Council set the city’s mill levy just over 1.5 mills below what it had published prior to a public hearing. Melroy said she did not learn of that change until after tax statements have been prepared.

To correct the issue, Commissioners approved abatement of the over-payment. Lindsborg taxpayers who have already paid their 2025 taxes in full will get refunds, while those who only paid first half taxes in December will have a credit on their second half payment.

Melroy noted a number of the refunds involve less than a dollar and, in some cases, mere pennies.
