LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Lindsborg City Council official appointed Tanner Faust as the new City Administrator during Monday evening’s meeting. Faust comes to Lindsborg from Lyons, where he served as Community Development Coordinator and later as Assistant City Administrator.

After approval of the appointment, Faust told the Council there are a lot of exciting things to come and he’s looking forward to being part of the team. Faust said over the past week he’s built relationships with department heads, some Council members and members of the community, adding when he began his career in public service he could only dream of working for a community like this.

The Council discussed plans presented earlier by the Svensk Hyllningsfest Committee related to plans to add mixed drinks to the beer garden this year. The Committee will be working with McPherson-based Whiskey Wagon to provide a full bar as part of the beer garden behind City Hall. At one point it was thought an ordinance change would be needed, but that is not the case. Action on liquor sales will come once the formal application has been submitted.

The Council awarded a $67,904.80 bid to APAC Kansas Shears Division for the 2025 chip seal projects, which Public Works Director Denny Walker said they had to take some streets off what was originally planned due to budgetary issues. This year’s projects will include portions of West Swensson and East Garfield, East Columbus, East Olson and West Grant Streets.

The Council approved a $5,518.10 payment to Mid Kansas Rewinding of Galva for purchase of two new pump motors for the swimming pool. Parks Director Lauren Doak said a circulating pump went out for the pool, and they were able to switch over to a pump usually used for the water slide. Two pumps were purchased so they would have one in stock., with the one working pump to be put back on the slide.

It also approved an additional $8,753 expense for repair work on the Emerald Lake lift station. This project had been approved last year, and Walker said a health-related issue came up with the original crew chief that left the original contractor unable to complete the project. It worked to locate another firm, and in getting into the station additional repairs were found to be needed.

This lift station was put on liner in the mid 1990s, and the existing pumps can’t be rebuilt any longer due to the environment which they operate in. The added cost of the additional work was just over what the city had initially budgeted for the project.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Holly Lofton gave a presentation on a booth Lindsborg will have at the Kansas State Fair this year. In the past Lindsborg has had a booth at the fair but has not since prior to Lofton becoming CVB Director. Along with Lindsborg’s booth she’s also involved with two other booths at the fair along with serving as vice-president of the Kansas State Fair Board.

Volunteers are being sought to staff the booth during the ten days of the fair, with those working provided with gate admission. Contact the CVB office at 785-227-2227 or email [email protected] if you would like to help.
