HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Lauren Reinhold, the Democratic candidate for Kansas’ 1st Congressional District, recently stopped by Ad Astra Radio to discuss the professional background and policy priorities driving her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives.
A lawyer with 29 years of experience and a former federal employee of 16 years, Reinhold cited her tenure in government as a primary motivation for her candidacy, expressing a desire to ensure the federal government operates efficiently and remains focused on serving the public interest rather than corporate or wealthy interests.
Central to Reinhold’s campaign is her “roadmap to prosperity,” a platform centered on “kitchen table economics” for the average Kansan. She argued, “Every Kansan and every American should have access to a job or retirement income that pays all the bills, with money left over to save for the future.” To achieve this, her platform proposes significant tax reforms aimed at ensuring the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share, alongside efforts to raise the minimum wage in a manner that protects small businesses.
Reinhold identified healthcare reform as the most critical financial challenge facing families today. Her platform advocates for making healthcare more affordable and accessible, with a focus on ensuring all citizens are insured and that costs are proportional to income. Drawing on her experience as an immigration attorney and her work with disability cases, Reinhold emphasized her deep familiarity with federal law and her commitment to advocating for the practical needs and opportunities of her constituents. As one thing she wants Kansans to know about her, she shared, “I’ve always been kind of a federal law nerd, so to speak, but not just for the nerdiness of it, for really advocating for Americans and making sure that the federal government is efficient and doing the best for all of us.”
