HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A series of Managing Brush Piles workshops will take place June 8-9 in Hutchinson and Burrton. The workshops are sponsored by the Kansas Prescribed Fire Council in partnership with Reno County Emergency Management, KSU Extension, USDA NRCS, and Kansas Forest Service.
The session on Thursday, June 8, will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Fire Training Center and will highlight Reno County burn regulations and permitting process. Presentations will be offered on the best practices for planning, burning brush piles, and making your property firewise.
The Friday, June 9 session will take outdoors from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 10800 E. Avenue G, Burrton. It will focus on brush pile placement, factors to consider before burning, pile ignitions, monitoring, and stirring. Also, learn more about property management options and wildfire recovery.
The workshops are open to homeowners and landowners in Reno Rice, and Harvey Counties, with a focus on land management in the Sandhills area. There is no cost to attend.
