McPHERSON, Kan. — The Lakeside Park Bandshell in McPherson has been added to the Register of Historic Kansas Places and forwarded for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

That action was taken Saturday during a meeting of the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review and was one of 13 nominations submitted for the national register. The Bandshell was nominated in the areas of community development, entertainment/recreation, and architecture.

It was constructed in the late 1930’s, and is named in memory of August San Romani, a long time band director for McPherson schools.

Over the past few years there has been discussions on renovating the bandshell, and in late 2023 a suggestion was made the city commit funds toward it, which was opposed at the time by Mayor Tom Brown.
