RICE COUNTY, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin a bridge replacement project on K-4 over Plum Creek east of Bushton in Rice County on Monday, Feb. 23, conditions permitting.
Initial work will consist of constructing a temporary road around the bridge to carry traffic through the project area. Traffic impacts should be minimal during this phase. Once the temporary road is complete, traffic will then be shifted to the detour while the new bridge is constructed.
Work will occur Monday through Friday during daylight hours.
King Construction, of Hesston, is the prime contractor on the $2.5 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones.
