McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — A 19-year old-McPherson man is dead after an early Saturday morning altercation southwest of Inman. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation, said attendees of a house party had a disagreement after consuming alcohol, after which two groups left the party in separate pickup trucks.
The vehicles later met on a rural road about two miles from the party near 4th Avenue and Arapaho Road, approximately two miles west of K-61 and a mile north of the Reno County line.
A physical altercation then ensued, during which Joshua Soden was shot. Soden was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 18-year-old man who investigators said shot Soden called 911 to report the incident, and then drove to the Inman Police Department where he was questioned. At this point he has not been arrested.
The KBI said in a statement late Saturday afternoon several witnesses have been interviewed as the investigation continues. It added the community is not at any risk related to this incident.
