Kansas State Fair Board Holds Annual Retreat in Manhattan


MANHATTAN. Kan. – The Kansas State Fair Board of Directors met in Manhattan for their annual board retreat on May 8 and 9.

The Board participated in a tour of the Biosecurity Research Institute at Kansas State University during their two-day retreat. They conducted a vision session, facilitated by staff from K-State Research and Extension, to consider future opportunities for the state fair and the fairgrounds in Hutchinson. K-State President Richard Linton joined the Board for a question-and-answer session about current events at the university.

Board members also participated in a discussion with legislators about engaging lawmakers and the public about Kansas agriculture and ways to promote the unique aspects of the state. Legislators who attended the panel were Rep. Sydney Carlin, D-Manhattan, Rep. Brenda Landwehr, R-Wichita, Rep. Lisa Mosier, R-Wheaton, and Rep. Ken Rahjes, R-Agra.

The Kansas State Fair’s mission is to promote and showcase Kansas agriculture, industry, and culture; to create opportunity for commercial activity; and to provide an educational and entertaining experience that is the pride of all Kansans. The state fair will take place in Hutchinson from Sept. 8-17, 2023.
