Kansas Announces April Total Tax Collections at $1.33B; 1.3% Above Estimate

TOPEKA, Kan. — In April 2025, the State of Kansas reported total tax collections of $1.33 billion, exceeding estimates by $17.6 million or 1.3%. Compared to April 2024, total tax collections were down 5.9%.

Governor Laura Kelly emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscally responsible budgeting to ensure the state’s continued financial stability, acknowledging Kansas’ strong financial health.

Individual income tax collections reached $684.8 million, which is $10 million or 1.5% above the estimate, though this was a 7.5% decline from the same month last year. Corporate income tax collections were $316.5 million, which is $1.4 million or 0.4% above the estimate, and down 6.4% from April 2024.

Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts were $296.3 million. This was $5.5 million or 1.9% above the estimate, and up $1.2 million or 0.4% from April 2024.
