Join Virtual Open House to Help Plan Newton’s Future

NEWTON, Kan. — What kind of housing does Newton need? What kind of business growth? What should happen with the old Dillons site at 320 N. Main? Are there streets in Newton where you have safety concerns?

Newton residents have the chance to share their thoughts on questions like these in an online open house as part of the Newton Next comprehensive planning process.

Community members are invited to review a draft vision statement and explore priorities for housing, transportation, recreation, and economic growth. Participants can also give feedback on preliminary site design ideas, including the redevelopment of 320 N. Main.

The online open house is available in both English and Spanish. It will be available until March 6.

For the best viewing experience, it is recommended to use a tablet, iPad, or computer rather than a phone. Some features may not display correctly or function as intended on smaller screens.

The survey is open to anyone who cares about the future of Newton: residents, business owners, family, and neighbors. The feedback received will be used to draft specific goals and objectives in the new comprehensive plan.

About the comprehensive plan

The City’s comprehensive plan is a long-range policy document that City officials use as a blueprint for decision-making on issues like land use, transportation, recreation, housing, and economic development. The plan helps ensure that growth is managed in a cohesive, intentional way.

Newton Next is an update of the City’s previous plan, ReNewton, which was developed in 2010 and whose goals have generally been accomplished.
