HILLSBORO, Kan. — The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation has awarded Tabor College a $1 million Endowed Scholarship Fund, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the foundation. The scholarship funds will be given out in perpetuity, beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.
“The creation of this fund is a tremendous encouragement that acknowledges the strong partnership between Tabor College and the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation,” President David Janzen, Ph.D., said. “With over $6 million given toward previous projects and the addition of this endowed scholarship, we’re grateful for their belief in our mission, vision, and values for our students.”
A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a minimum of three students. Eligibility requires that students must be full-time, hold a 3.0 GPA, and be residents of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, or Texas. Students may also apply annually if the requirements continue to be met.
Established in 1948 by John and Lottie Mabee, the foundation was created with a strong work ethic, generosity, integrity, honesty, and humility. Selected students are required to model these traits as they pursue their education.
“A gift from this scholarship will empower Tabor students to reach their full potential during and after college,” Ron Braun, vice president of philanthropy, said. “We hope and pray that it will yield hard-working, humble leaders to address key issues and create a more equitable future for all.”
