NEWTON, Kan. — Multiple agencies are investigating the source of natural gas detected in Newton’s new Fox Ridge housing development.
The gas issue was found last Friday while Kansas Gas Service was doing a site survey near Southeast 10th and Logan. They determined the gas is not coming from their lines.
Vacuum trucks were brought in to remove gas from the ground to prevent risk of ignition, and while the source of the gas is unknown homes in the area are not in danger.
Harvey County Commissioners Tuesday approved a disaster declaration to enable access to additional resources, including hazmat teams from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
