Iconic I-135 Chimney Sweep Statue to be Repaired

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — There may yet be life for the iconic Chimney Sweep statue that was blown over Tuesday during severe storms in the McPherson area.

On Saturday, a group of volunteers joined the statue’s owner, Chimney and Stone Specialists, to remove the structure from its long time site along I-135 southeast of McPherson to be repaired. It’s being taken to K-State Salina where their Aerospace and Technology program will be taking this on as a class project.

The statue began its life in front of the former Happy Chef restaurant in McPherson, and when it closed, it was moved to Chimney and Stone Specialists’ property and converted from a chef to a chimney sweep.

Reports have surfaced of a fake GoFundMe account circulating on social media seeking funds for the chimney sweep repair. The owners have no association with this fundraiser, and funds given are not going towards repairs.
